EU to study S C Johnson/Sara Lee deal
The European Commission is to assess the agreement for the US consumer products company, S C Johnson, to acquire Sara Lee’s global household insecticide business. The two companies expect to complete the deal by the end of the year ( Agrow No 594, p 3). An investigation under EU merger rules was not originally required as the turnover of the two parties did not meet the threshold. However, six EU member states, Belgium, the Czech Republic, France, Greece, Italy and Spain, asked the Commission to examine the impact of the deal on their territories.
