Germany approves Bayer's bixafen
Germany has granted Bayer CropScience commercial approval for a combination product including its new cereal fungicide, bixafen. Aviator Xpro (bixafen 75 g/litre + prothioconazole 150 g/litre) is for use on winter wheat, rye and triticale at an application rate of 1.25 litre/ha, and barley at 1 litre/ha. It is for the control of leaf blotch ( Septoria tritici) and leaf rust ( Puccinia recondita) among other diseases on wheat, leaf scald ( Rhynchosporium secalis) and net blotch ( Pyrenophora teres) on barley, and powdery mildew ( Erysiphe graminis) on both. Bixafen is a pyrazole fungicide that acts as a succinate dehydrogenase inhibitor. Its first product approval was granted last month in the UK also in combination with prothioconazole ( Agrow No 599, p 20).
