Argentine agchem imports up
Argentine imports of pesticides and fertiliser rose by almost 80% in the first seven months of 2010, according to Argentine media. They cite figures from the national market research agency, the IES. The figures represent “a strong recovery” on the back of increased crop areas stimulated by “maintained relatively high” crop prices and an end to a lengthy drought in the country, the IES notes. Imports reached a combined $788 million for the two segments. The rise was the result of a “spectacular” rise in volume imports. Volumes were up by more than four-fold to 1,219 million tonnes. The major rise came in fertiliser volumes with an over five-fold increase. No specific figures are given for pesticides.
