Agchems within MRLs in 93% Brazilian foods
The Brazilian Ministry of Agriculture found that more than nine out of ten food samples contained pesticide residues within permitted levels. The Ministry analysed 12 foodstuffs in its 2009/10 study - the national residue control in food of plant origin plan. Some 92.5% of samples had residues within maximum residue limits (MRLs) covering over 100 analysed pesticides. A further five foodstuffs were checked for aflatoxins residues. The complete picture was a 92.9% conformity rate for the 17 analysed fruits and vegetables, or 734 of 790 samples.
