Slow progress on EU GMO import issues

The European Commission is considering a proposed “technical solution” for dealing with feed imports that contain low levels of genetically modified organisms that are not EU-approved, but for which an EU authorisation is pending, says EU Health and Consumers Commissioner John Dalli. The proposal seeks to harmonise the methods for sampling, analysis and the interpretation of results by EU member states. As such, it seems little different to the proposed solution outlined by the Commission at the end of 2008 ( Agrow No 561, p 9).
