UK regulators met 2009 objectives
The UK Chemicals Regulation Directorate (CRD) processed 94% (against a target of 90%) of pesticide product applications within designated completion times in 2009. All “fast track” applications for active ingredients, where no issues had been raised in the assessment, were completed within the designated completion time. The Directorate completed 14 review re-submissions for voluntarily withdrawn ais and commented on around 30 draft assessment reports undertaken by other EU member states. The CRD was able to achieve its objectives despite a “lot of pressure” resulting from a large number of ai resubmissions under the EU review programme for listing of ais on Annex I of the EU agrochemical registration Directive. This “largely unplanned work” necessitated much reprioritisation of the Directorate’s planned activities.
