EFSA safety clearance for stacked-trait maize lines

The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) has given a positive safety assessment to more genetically modified stacked-trait maize lines for import, processing, and use in food and feed. The joint applications from Dow AgroSciences and Monsanto seek EU approval for two insect-resistant and herbicide-tolerant lines. One line combines Monsanto’s MON89034 (Genuity VT Double Pro) and NK603 with Dow/DuPont’s 1507 (Herculex I). The other combines MON89034 and 1507 with Monsanto’s MON88017 (YieldGard VT RW) and Dow/DuPont’s 59122 (Herculex RW). Each individual trait already holds EU import approval. The EFSA’s opinion on the applications will go forward for consideration by the European Commission.
