US to approve BASF's metrafenone
The US EPA has proposed the approval of BASF’s fungicide, metrafenone, for use on grapevines. It would be the first US use registration for the active ingredient, which received an import tolerance in 2006 ( Agrow No 505, p 22). The planned approval is for a 300 g/litre suspension concentrate formulation for the control of powdery mildew ( Uncinula necator). It is recommended for use at 10.3-15.4 fl oz/acre (0.7-1.1 litre/ha), with a maximum of six applications per season. BASF markets metrafenone as Vivando on grapevines in Europe and South America. The US approval decision is open to public comment until October 22nd.
