Turkey Biosafety Law in force
New biosafety legislation in Turkey has entered into force. The Ministry of Agriculture issued details of the Biosafety Law last month ( Agrow No 599, p 11). It covers sales, imports and exports of genetically modified crops. The rules also deal with the evaluation process, the monitoring and control of commercialised products, human and animal health, and safeguarding biodiversity. The Law means that any use of GMOs in Turkey is illegal, including using stocks of GM soybeans intended for feed, according to the Black Sea Biotechnology Association.
