Australia approves Bayer's GM brassica trials
The Australian Office of the Gene Technology Regulator (OGTR) has approved Bayer CropScience’s planned field tests of genetically modified herbicide-tolerant canola and Indian mustard. The OGTR previously concluded that the tests posed negligible risks to human health or the environment ( Agrow No 596, p 19). Bayer aims to test the crops, together with a hybrid breeding system, on up to 126 ha over 21 sites in South Australia and Victoria. The tests will be conducted between January 2011 and January 2014.
