Pakistan cotton crop is 100% <i>Bt</i>

Nearly 100% of cotton sown in Pakistan in the current season is made up of genetically modified insect-resistant Bt lines, says a USDA Foreign Agricultural Service (FAS) report. The country’s National Bio-Safety Committee recommended the commercial cultivation of two Bt lines towards the end of 2009 ( Agrow No 582, p 24). The seed authority of Pakistan’s largest cotton-growing state, Punjab, approved eight lines this May, the FAS says.
