US groups seek destruction of GM sugar beet

The move follows a ruling by a US court that the groups are likely to succeed in their claims that the USDA’s decision to grant the permits was illegal. Last month, lawyers from the Center for Food Safety and Earthjustice challenged the issuing of permits authorising “steckling” (seedling) production under strict conditions that would not allow flowering.
