Argentina to shift seed law on GMO royalties

The Argentine government has been in talks to reform its seed law in order to gain access to new genetically modified seed varieties, national media report. The Ministry of Agriculture has consulted on the bill to overcome previous disputes such as that with Monsanto over the payment of royalties for its technology in the past few years. Monsanto said earlier this year that it would deny Argentine farmers the use of its latest generation of GM soybeans over concerns about intellectual property rights ( Agrow No 586, p 2).
