US EPA confirms aldicarb phase-out
The US EPA has notified the receipt of a request from Bayer CropScience to cancel all registrations of the insecticide/acaricide/nematicide, Temik 15G (aldicarb). In August, Bayer agreed to the immediate cancellation of registrations for potatoes and citrus, with sales for all other uses to end within four years ( Agrow No 598, p 19). Existing stocks of Temik can be sold and used on potatoes and citrus until December 31st 2011. Sale and distribution for other uses will be permitted until December 31st 2016, with use allowed until August 31st 2018. The cancellation request is open to public comment until November 8th.
