Lower MRL violation in UK in 2009
Results of the annual pesticide monitoring study on food samples in the UK in 2009 showed maximum residue limit (MRL) violations in 1.1%, down slightly on the 2008 figure of 1.2% ( Agrow No 578, p 14). A total of 3,835 samples of 41 commodities were tested for various pesticides, resulting in over 602,000 food and pesticide combinations. Samples with no residues accounted for 60.8% of the total, while 38.2% contained residues below MRLs. That compared with 53.8% and 45%, respectively in 2009. The study was conducted by the UK Pesticide Residues Committee (PRC).
