Brazilian agchem inspectors fine farmers

Brazilian authorities have fined 17 farmers for use of illegal pesticides. Inspections in the state of Parana found that 7% of the 232 farms visited were using unregistered pesticide products. Inspectors from the Ministry of Agriculture and the Ministry of the Environment’s environmental agency, the Ibama, confiscated packaging of 77 products, of which 22 were still full. “Illegal pesticides harm users and consumers, and damage the environment due to their low efficacy”, Ministry of Agriculture pesticide inspection chief Antônio Miyasaka says. Other inspections across the state over the past few months led to the seizure of 352 pesticide packages. All confiscated packages are to be incinerated.
