Brazil agchem assoc renews approval process call
The Brazilian agrochemical industry has renewed calls for an “effective and efficient” registration system for pesticides. The industry association, Andef, says that new pesticide products are safer and more effective than ever. It notes Brazil’s “enviable position” as a supplier of food to its own country and for rising export requirements. “However, national recognition of the situation will only be proven when there is a transparent, scientific and effective [registration] process,” Andef regulatory affairs manager Guilherme Guimarães says. There have been reports that competent authorities from thee Ministries would form a working group seeking to expedite processes ( Agrow No 588, p 18). One authority, the Anvisa, has blamed intellectual property protection for holding back the registration of pesticides ( Agrow No 590, p 28).
