New Zealand to review quintozene approval
The New Zealand Environmental Risk Management Authority (ERMA) is to review the registration of the fungicide, quintozene. The decision is based on the detection of dioxin impurities in quintozene products in Australia at levels that may present risks to applicators. Australian registrations were suspended and a product recall conducted earlier this year ( Agrow No 592, p 24). American Vanguard’s Terraclor 75 WP is the only quintozene-based product registered in New Zealand. It is a soil treatment for vegetables, turf and ornamentals. The importer, Nufarm, has agreed not to import or sell the product during the review. The ERMA expects to call for public submissions on the review during the first half of 2011.
