Ukraine to crack down on illegal agchem imports

Ukraine plans to toughen requirements for imports of pesticides by introducing compulsory laboratory analysis, reports Russian news service Agrotimes. The initiative by the country’s Ministry of Agrarian Policy is believed to have resulted from the market being swamped by counterfeit and low-quality products. Up to 50% of the country’s estimated $300 million crop protection market is reportedly accounted for by illegal products. Such products affect not only the state’s revenues, but also prevent Ukrainian producers’ access to foreign markets, reports Agrow’s Ukrainian correspondent.
