US patent protection for DHT maize
Dow AgroSciences has notified the allowance of US patent protection for its genetically modified herbicide-tolerant DHT maize. The company previously received patents in New Zealand and South Africa, and has filed for patent protection around the world. DHT maize is tolerant to broadleaf phenoxy herbicides, such as 2,4-D, and aryloxyphenoxy propionate (“fop”) graminicides. Dow sought USDA clearance for DHT maize in 2009 ( Agrow No 575, p 30). The company aims to launch it in the US in 2012.
