US EPA estimates burden of NPDES permits
The US EPA estimates that the annual time burden and cost of permits for pesticide applications over or near water will amount to more than 1 million hours and nearly $52 million. The Agency is seeking public comment on its estimates before submitting an information collection request (ICR) to the Office of Management and Budget. The ICR is needed to calculate the burden associated with the collection and reporting activities of the general National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permits that are to be issued by the EPA and states next year. The Agency issued a draft general NPDES permit in June and plans to finalise it next month ( Agrow No 593, p 14).
