Mexico calls for wider Lat Am agbiotech adoption
Mexico has called on Latin American and Caribbean countries to adopt agricultural biotechnology more widely. It made the call earlier this month to delegates from 26 countries at the seventh Latin American and Caribbean meeting on agricultural biotechnology, REDBIO. Mexico urged delegate countries to put themselves at the vanguard of biotechnology development and not “irrationally apply the brakes”, the country’s Ministry of Agriculture reports. The Ministry’s technology development director general, José Amulfo del Toro Morales, said that genetically modified crops should serve regional food security.
