Pioneer opens soybean plant in Brazil
DuPont seed subsidiary Pioneer Hi-Bred International has opened a soybean production plant in Catalao, Brazil. The new facility will cost $50 million, and Pioneer expects it to be fully operational by February 2012. The company anticipates employing 60 full-time and around 500 temporary staff at the plant, once it is at full capacity. Pioneer invested $5.5 million in the expansion of its Planaltina soybean production plant earlier this year, doubling its capacity and making it the largest facility of its kind in the world, the company says. Both plants are in the state of Goias.
