EU extends carbendazim Annex I listing again
The European Commission has extended the period of EU approval for the fungicide, carbendazim, by six months to June 13th 2011, to allow more time to complete the assessment of an application to renew the approval. This is the second extension for the ai, following the addition of one year to December 31st 2010 ( Agrow No 582, p 8). The application for renewal was submitted by a task force comprising Bayer CropScience, BASF and DuPont. Carbendazim was added to Annex I of the EU agrochemical registration Directive (91/414) in 2007 for three years. It was among a group of ais granted restricted listings because the EU regulatory committee could not agree on the conditions of re-registration ( Agrow No 510, p 7).
