Brazilian authorities had seized almost 24 tonnes of illegal pesticides by the end of October this year, the national agrochemical industry trade association, the Sindag, says. That amounted to a 16% rise on the first ten months of last year. The authorities have convicted 40 people this year. The illegal pesticide market was estimated to be worth $540 million in 2009 ( Agrow No 590, p 29). The Sindag earlier reported that 14 tonnes had been apprehended by the end of June ( Agrow No 598, p 29).
