No agchem residues in third of Brazilian foods
A further study has found that one-third of analysed Brazilian foodstuffs contained no pesticide residues, while nine out of ten detected residues were within maximum residue limits (MRLs). The Ministry of Agriculture affiliate, the Ceagesp, analysed 450 samples of 12 foodstuffs. It found that 66% contained some pesticide residues. Around 4% were above MRLs and 6% were of pesticides that had not been registered for the crop on which they were detected. Similar findings were reported by the Ministry of Agriculture in September ( Agrow No 600, p 17).
