PwC deal for glyphosate technology advances

The transaction process for the global launch of a technology for the herbicide, glyphosate, called “Better Glyphosate Technology” (BGT), is expected to be completed in April 2011, says the consultancy, PwC. BGT raised a “high interest” from nearly 20 companies, including “most of [the]top ten” crop protection multinationals. A selected group of agrochemical industry representatives received an official invitation to participate in the transaction opportunity in December. BGT is a patent-pending technology that requires less of the active ingredient and delivers it in a more effective way, potentially decreasing impact on the environment, PwC claims. The transaction may shift the current balance in the glyphosate herbicide market, it says. The owner of the technology is said to be an EU-based R&D company and BGT products could be available as early as this autumn ( Agrow No 606, p 6).
