Spanish GM maize farmers to stick with GMOs

Almost all Spanish farmers who planted genetically modified maize in 2010 will likely do so again. A Spanish biotechnology association Fundacion Anatama-commissioned study found that 93% of those farmers will plant GMOs this year and a further 6% have yet to decide. Of those who planted GM maize last season, 79% were satisfied, while the rest were “fairly satisfied”. Some 99% found the seed good value for money. The major benefit is protection against European corn borers ( Ostrinia nubilalis), which 98% of farmers cited.
