Brazil bans methamidophos
The Brazilian authorities have banned use of the organophosphate insecticide, methamidophos, from June 30th 2012. Marketing of the product is to end at the end of 2011. The registration of the active ingredient will be cancelled on December 31st 2012, maintained until that date exclusively for monitoring of residues. The national health surveillance agency, the Anvisa, issued a resolution phasing out use of the ai through the official gazette on January 17th.
