EU warns Italy on failure to extend penconazole use
The European Commission has issued a warning to Italy over its failure to implement an EU decision to lift restrictions on the use of the fungicide, penconazole. The active ingredient was formerly restricted to greenhouse use only, but this was lifted in June 2010 after the evaluation of additional data from Syngenta ( Agrow No 593, p 9). However, Italy has yet to implement that decision. The Commission initiated an infringement procedure last year and the latest warning is a “reasoned opinion”, which may be followed by referral to the European Court of Justice if Italy does not comply.
