Brazil agchem industry call for new ais to replace old
The Brazilian crop protection industry has renewed calls for expedited registrations of new agrochemicals in response to the withdrawal of some older active ingredients by the authorities. A tripartite commission of the country’s agrochemical regulatory agencies has this month set a phase-out by June 30th 2012 of the organophosphate insecticide, methamidophos (see this issue). Four ais in the current reassessment programme have been banned or are to be phased out, and a fifth has new use restrictions. Decisions on another eight out of 14 ais in the programme have yet to be issued.
