US to renew agbiotech committee
US Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack intends to renew the Advisory Committee on Biotechnology and 21st Century Agriculture (AC21) for a two-year period. The Committee will examine the long-term impacts of biotechnology on the US food and agricultural system and provide guidance to the USDA on pressing individual issues. The AC21 will meet in Washington, DC, up to four times a year. The Committee was established in 2003 ( Agrow No 423, p 12). Its charter expired in early 2009.
