Pioneer debuts AcreMax maize hybrids in US

DuPont seed subsidiary Pioneer Hi-Bred International has introduced 38 genetically modified insect-resistant Optimum AcreMax 1 maize hybrids in the US this year. The refuge-in-a-bag product is a blend of 90% DuPont/Dow AgroSciences’ corn rootworm ( Diabrotica spp) and corn borer ( Ostrinia nubilalis)-resistant Herculex Xtra with 10% corn borer-resistant Herculex 1, which serves as the corn rootworm refuge ( Agrow No 591, p 26). Pioneer is also introducing 13 Optimum AcreMax RW hybrids. The product combines 90% rootworm-resistant Herculex RW with 10% glyphosate-tolerant Roundup Ready maize and serves as a corn borer refuge ( Agrow ibid).
