Valent BioSciences/Nippon Soda tebufenozide deal

Nippon Soda has granted Sumitomo Chemical’s US biopesticide and biorational products business, Valent BioSciences (Libertyville, Illinois), exclusive rights to supply and distribute the insecticide, tebufenozide, in the North American forestry sector. Valent will use the established brand name, Mimic, in the US and Canada. Tebufenozide acts as an insect growth regulator against lepidopteran pests by mimicking the anti-moulting hormone, ecdysone. It will complement Valent’s Bt-based forestry bioinsecticide, Foray, the company points out. Nippon Soda acquired tebufenozide from Dow AgroSciences last year ( Agrow No 589, p 3). It granted US and Canadian marketing rights for crop use, as Confirm, to Gowan ( Agrow No 599, p 5).
