Pioneer seeks US EUP for GM maize lines
The US EPA has notified receipt of an application from DuPont seed subsidiary Pioneer Hi-Bred International for an experimental use permit (EUP) to test Syngenta’s genetically modified insect-resistant MIR604 maize in several trait combinations. Syngenta granted Pioneer a licence to MIR604 late last year ( Agrow No 607, p 3). MIR604 produces a modified Bt Vip3A toxin for corn rootworm ( Diabrotica spp) control. The EUP would cover MIR604 in combination with: Dow AgroSciences/DuPont’s Herculex 1 ( Bt Cry1F); Herculex RW (Cry34Ab1 + Cry35Ab1) and Monsanto’s MON810 (Cry1Ab); and Herculex Xtra (Cry1F + Cry34Ab1 + Cry35Ab1) and MON810.
