UK scheme launched for pesticide disposal
An industry-led, government-funded project has been set up in the UK to tackle concerns about farm security and redundant pesticides. Entitled “Project SOE (Security in the Operational Environment)”, it involves a subsidised biocide and pesticide disposal scheme being run from January 3rd to March 14th. The scheme will make it possible for farmers, growers, gamekeepers and pest controllers to dispose of any out-of-date or revoked biocides and pesticides for a fixed cost of £20 ($32) per application. With funds being limited, the disposal scheme might end before the deadline if the available funding is exhausted, the organisers say. Early indications from the scheme are that there is a significant amount of redundant and illegal pesticides and biocides in the agricultural environment, they add.
