BASF debuts Abacus and Opera Ultra in Brazil

BASF has debuted two combination fungicides based on epoxiconazole and pyraclostrobin in Brazil. Abacus is for use on maize to control corn rust ( Puccinia sorghi), southern rust ( P polysora) and leaf spot ( Phaeosphaeria maydis). It is recommended at 0.25 litre/ha, which is lower than alternatives on the market, BASF says. Opera Ultra is new for use on cotton and beans. It is said to be faster acting than Opera at the same application rate. Opera has been in use in Brazil for several years on maize and peanuts.
