Paraguay achem regulator call for manufacturing
The Paraguayan agrochemical regulator has called for support for the national pesticide industry. The president of the national plant health and seed quality service, the Senave, Dr Miguel Lovera, made the call after visits to four pesticide manufacturers in the country. “[The pesticide] industry has to be supported so we can avoid as much as possible the import of pesticides that we can make ourselves,” he said. The Senave has clarified Mr Lovera’s position. It says that the economic potential of the national industry should be raised to create more work and improve food security by replacing imports, especially of products that have been heavily subsidised. The comments followed visits to the national manufacturers, Tecnomyl, Ciagropa, Aktra and Chemtec.
