More biocides gain EU approval
Four more non-crop pesticides have successfully completed evaluations under the EU biocidal products Directive (98/8). The insecticide/acaricide, bifenthrin, and the insecticide, fenoxycarb, have been approved for use as wood preservatives. Nonanoic acid (pelargonic acid) and (Z,E)-tetradeca-9,12-dienyl acetate have been approved for use as insect repellents/attractants. The date for adding the four active ingredients to Annex I of Directive (98/8) has been set for February 1st 2013 to allow EU member states and companies to adjust to the new conditions of use. In addition, (Z,E)-tetradeca-9,12-dienyl acetate will be listed on Annex IA for “low-risk” ais.
