EU proposes continued restricted use of carbendazim
The European Commission has forwarded proposals to EU Ministers for renewing the EU approval for restricted use of the fungicide, carbendazim. The Commission is proposing an authorisation lasting 3.5 years, with similar restrictions on application rates as imposed on the active ingredient in 2007. However, it is seeking an opinion from Ministers after the EU regulatory committee was unable to reach the qualified majority required to accept or reject the proposal. Ministers have three months to return a majority vote, or the Commission would be free to go ahead with its proposed action.
