US rules out clothianidin ban

The US EPA has turned down a demand from beekeeping and environmentalist groups for a “stop sale” order for Bayer CropScience’s neonicotinoid insecticide, clothianidin. The groups made the demand last year because of concerns over risks to bees ( Agrow No 606, p 17). They cited the reclassification of a clothianidin field study, but provided “no explanation, evidence or data” to support a finding of “imminent hazard”, the EPA points out.
