Brazil Anvisa OKs Syngenta biofungicide
The Brazilian health inspection agency, the Anvisa, has added the biofungicide, Apergillus flavus strain NRRL 21882, to its list of approved active ingredients. The agency approved its listing in November last year, pending a public comment period. It has since confirmed its listing. Full approval requires the authorisation of the Ministry of Agriculture. The Anvisa has approved its use as a granular formulation on peanuts against aflatoxin-producing A flavus strains. Syngenta markets the biopesticide in the US as Afla-Guard. It acquired the product through the acquisition of Circle One Global in 2009 ( Agrow No 570, p 2).
