UK launches second consultation on EU rules
The UK Department for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) has launched a public consultation on two sets of draft Regulations, which will underpin the implementation in the UK of legislation arising from the EU’s Thematic Strategy on Pesticides. The first supports the operation of the EU agrochemical registration Regulation (1107/2009) in the marketing and use of pesticides. The second sets fees and charges to recover the government’s costs of implementing this and other EU legislation on plant protection products. Fees have remained unchanged since 2007, the DEFRA says. The consultation focuses on specific measures to implement the government’s preferred approach in light of the earlier consultation on options last year ( Agrow No 586, p 12). It is being carried out by the Chemical Regulation Directorate on behalf of the DEFRA and comments can be submitted until April 12th.
