Mexican Ag Ministry issues Monsanto pilot GMO licence
Mexico has permitted Monsanto to step up its planting of genetically modified maize to the pilot stage. It is the first such approval. The Ministry of Agriculture, the Sagarpa, approved Monsanto’s glyphosate-tolerant Roundup Ready maize this month, dependent on the acceptance of the Ministry of the Environment. The pilot stage is an intermediate stage in Mexico between field trials and commercialisation of GM maize. Monsanto’s licence covers planting on less than 1 ha.
