Syngenta Brazil battles fungicide piracy
Syngenta has launched a campaign in six Brazilian states alerting farmers to the existence of counterfeit versions of its fungicide, Priori Xtra (azoxystrobin + cyproconazole). It follows the confiscation by authorities in the state of Parana of illegal versions of Priori Xtra in February. The state government’s Secretariat of Agriculture, the SEAB, ordered the seizure of some 890 litres of the product in 5 and 20 litre packages. It reported that the packaging was similar to and difficult to distinguish from Syngenta’s original. Subsequent tests showed that the product “lacked the active ingredients ensuring the product’s efficacy”.
