High stocks hit Brazil glyphosate imports
High stock levels of the herbicide, glyphosate, in Brazil are impacting on imports, business newspaper Valor Economico reports. Aggregate volumes of pesticide imports were flat last year, while glyphosate volume dropped by 9% (see this issue). Valor cites a “herd effect” following the international shortage of the herbicide in 2008, which lifted its price to $13/litre. That prompted a rush to buy in 2009, and consequent high inventories of the herbicide among Brazilian companies. Prices for glyphosate dropped to around $3/litre last year, the newspaper notes.
