Australasia OKs Dow's Enlist maize
Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) has recommended the approval of food derived from Dow AgroSciences’ genetically modified herbicide-tolerant Enlist maize. The DAS-40278-9 maize line is tolerant to the phenoxy herbicide, 2,4-D, and aryloxyphenoxy propionate (“fop”) graminicides. It expresses the aad-1 gene from the bacterium, Sphingobium herbicidovorans, which encodes an aryloxyalkanoate dioxygenase protein. Dow plans to introduce Enlist maize in the US in 2013 ( Agrow No 611, p 29). The FSANZ assessment is open to public comment until April 19th.
