EU phase-out schedule set for ethoxyquin
The European Commission has instructed EU member states to withdraw approvals for the fungicide, ethoxyquin, by September 3rd 2011, and to allow existing stocks to be sold and used until September 3rd 2012 at the latest. The move follows the Commission’s decision not to re-register the active ingredient. Ethoxyquin was temporarily withdrawn from the EU review of existing ais after the original evaluation identified data gaps. It was then resubmitted by French company Xeda International to Germany as rapporteur member state ( Agrow No 572, p 8). However, the EU authorities concluded that there were still insufficient data to complete the assessment.
