Germany issues advice to home pesticide users
The German federal office for consumer protection and food safety, the BVL, has issued guidelines for home and small garden use for pesticides. Not all approved pesticides have home and small garden use but the ones that can be used for such purposes must carry a label specifically stating such use. The office lays stress on responsible use as “the legal provisions for the application of plant protection products also apply to lay people”. That implies carefully reading instructions on the label and seeking advice from retailers, who are legally obligated to advise buyers. Law prohibits any application on paved surfaces such as roads, driveways, garage floors and terraces. Any such applications are punishable with fines. The BVL advises caution when purchasing over the internet, as not all internet dealers provide application advice to users.
