Brazil's top agchems assessment - correction
The insecticide, cypermethrin, was not the second most used pesticide in Brazil in 2009, as previously reported. The Ministry of the Environment’s environmental agency, the Ibama, erroneously reported that some 60,000 tonnes of the insecticide were sold that year ( Agrow No 611, p 18). Only 245 tonnes of cypermethrin were sold in Brazil in 2009. The agency based its analysis on figures submitted by companies of their sales. One such company sent a figure referring to kgs rather than tonnes. The Ibama has not issued an updated top ten, rather confirming the rest of those previously reported as the top nine.
